Join us on Bank Holiday weekend 1st-3rd May 2021 for Doris’s Dawdle. Celebrating the 100th birthday of Doris Davinson and helping raise money for the Royal Voluntary Service. Doris died a few weeks before her 99th birthday in March 2020. Her family remain heartbroken with no chance to say goodbye due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Doris loved walking with her friends and family organising walking holidays for many years. Her most prolific walk was round the mile (it is about 3 miles) a loop from Craghead to Blackhouse and back to Craghead.
Doris’s Dawdle is a chance for us all to walk the mile one last time. For this event to celebrate Doris’s 100th birthday we would like to see 100 people walk, run or cycle a mile and donate £1 to the RVS.
Doris lived in Craghead for over ninety years and was a familiar face to the older residents in the village. After retirement she was a long term volunteer for the Royal Voluntary Service delivering meals on wheels to the elderly well into her eighties. She received a long service medal from the charity on retirement. A decade later she was still getting her regular exercise pushing herself out of the door for a walk. Even if it was only a few hundred metres the walking along with her family, baking and newspaper kept her going.
