SUMMARY:Bolts Law Basher 2023
DESCRIPTION:History of the Bolts Law Basher\nThe John Donneky Snr Bolts Law Basher is an annual running event. It is usually held on the first Tuesday of June in the North Pennines starting in Rookhope. Since 2012 a couple of hundred runners have enjoyed an evening on the fells. It is a fun fellrunning taster session to prepare novice fell runners for entering one of the local races later in the Summer. John Donneky senior believed all runners should do part of their training on the fells to prepare themselves for their races even if they were on the roads. John was a committed member of Derwentside A.C. and the club contribute the costs of the event. \nIn 2020 due to the Covid-19 lockdown we had a virtual event. In 2021 & 2022 we enjoyed the fells even more after missing a whole year. \nAbout The Event\nAfter the obligatory photograph in the village everyone jogs up the one mile Rookhope Incline. Runners will be split into groups at the top of the incline. Each group will be looked after by experienced run leaders which hopefully will ensure everyone has a comfortable evening and gets back to the village hall safely. It is suitable for both beginners are the more experienced with a range of group leaders to suit everyone. \nThe whole run is approximately 7.5 miles and includes some heather bashing and two big climbs. After the incline a flat then downhill section takes you to the foot of the climb to Bolts Law the second obstacle on the route.  Weather conditions can be very different on the higher ground and can change quickly. For this reason participants must bring some suitable clothing for poor weather. Even if you don’t think you are going to need them when you leave the house.
